The first group, of more than 400 Chinese nationals, have arrived at Tokyo's Narita International Airport. They were evacuated from the Prefectures of Ibaraki and Fukushima, with the help of the Chinese Embassy in Japan. The Chinese Consulate General, in Ni-igata also picked up about 1,200 Chinese in Miyagi,.. Fukushima and Iwate. 25 shuttle buses drove them to Niigata where they're waiting to be flown home.

As the seriousness and uncertainty grows over the Fukushima nuclear issue, the Chinese Embassy in Japan and the Chinese General Consulate in Niigata are doing everything possible to voluntarily evacuate Chinese nationals from the disaster zone. They are calling for calm, understanding and cooperation.

The first 400 that will fly out are mainly Chinese students from Ibaraki Prefecture and other areas in the northeast region of Japan. The group includes some elderly people and children. The departure is very organized, with people staying close together and students volunteering to help collect names and distribute food. The evacuees are regaining a sense of safety.

Meanwhile, more buses will be sent by the consulate general in Niigata, and the embassy is arranging for more groups to fly out.
