The latest numbers illustrates the terrible impact of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.

The country's National Police Agency says 5,692 people have been confirmed dead as of Friday morning, while close to 9,522 others remain unaccounted for.

-More than 76,000 buildings have been damaged.

-And over half-a-million evacuees are now living in more than 2,600 shelters.

- Also, at least 100 aftershocks have jolted the country's coastal areas, including at least 25 tremors with magnitudes greater than 5.0. Scientists expect more to follow.
