Libyan state television has shown footage of leader Muammar Gaddafi meeting and talking with what it says are tribal leaders in a hotel in Tripoli. A presenter said the meeting took place on Wednesday (May 11).

Gaddafi has not appeared in public since April 30, when a NATO air strike on a house in the capital killed his youngest son and three of his grandchildren.

There was no date stamp on the footage, and no independent confirmation that the meeting took place on Wednesday.
