Tourists from selected cities of the Chinese mainland will be able to travel across the Taiwan Strait as individuals by the end of June.
Negotiators from the two sides held a meeting in Taipei Wednesday to review the implementation of cross-strait agreements. It was the first time for negotiators from the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation to hold such a meeting.
The two sides agreed to gradually increase the size of travel groups. Flights will also be increased from 370 per week to at least 550. In the first stage of this new agreement, the daily quota of tourists visiting Taiwan has been set at 500 people.
