Leaders of the Syrian National Council, Syria's main opposition group, have met with Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutolgu in Istanbul. The two parties were set to discuss plans to create an organised front to the Syrian opposition.
Burhan Ghalioun, the president of the SNC, is believed to have recently asked the Turkish government to allow his "military bureau" to open in Turkey to coordinate the opposition's military operations.
In Paris on Thursday, Ghalioun announced intentions for a military council to organise and unify all armed resistance to the Syrian government. And the SNC's plan was coordinated with the Free Syrian Army, an opposition force mainly made up of army defectors.
According to Ghalioun, the council will be made up of military and civilian experts, and various armed factions will be unified under one central leadership.
