Two Chinese surveillance fleets are now patrolling waters around the Diaoyu Islands, following the Chinese government's announcement defining the country's territorial waters.
The head of the fleets says the current patrol is exercising China's jurisdiction over the Diaoyu Islands. He added that the ships have been interrupted by the Japanese Coast Guard, but stressed that the Chinese fleets will continue to patrol the territorial waters.
Xiao Huiwu, Head, Chinese Surveillance Fleet said, " Under the deployment, six Chinese surveillance vessels have successfully conducted jurisdiction patrols in waters around the Diaoyu island and its affiliated islands.
These include Diaoyu island, Huang Weiyu island and Chi Weiyu island, althouth the Japanese Coast Guard has traced and interrupted our surveillance of the area.
