Eight sets of medals were awarded at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
The first went to Austrian Matthias Mayer, who won the men's Olympic downhill gold. The 23-year-old, clocked a winning time of two minutes 6.23 seconds.
Jamie Anderson of the United States won the first Olympic gold medal in womem's snowboarding slopestyle, gaining an incredible score of 95.25.
Switzerland's Dario Cologna won the men's 30-kilometer skiathlon. He attacked with less than a kilometre left to finish ahead of Swede Marcus Hellner, who finished second.
And in women's ice hockey, Sweden beat Japan 1-0, with Jenni Asserholt deflecting a shot into the net for a goal in the first period.
In the team skating event, 31-year-old Russian veteran Evgeni Plushenko and his teammate, 15-year-old Yulia Lipnitskaya, won the first gold for the host country.
