Following the announcement by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday night that flight MH370 had crashed, Malaysian authorities provided more updates to the press just about an hour back. Acting Minister of Transport Hishammuddin Hussein said the focus remained on narrowing the search area.
Hishammuddin said the last position of the plane was pinpointed in the middle of the southern Indian Ocean, west of Perth. He said it was a remote area with no land anywhere near. While search efforts in the southern corridor are currently on hold due to stormy weather, the search in the northern corridor has been called off.
Hishammuddin also announced that a high-level delegation was scheduled to leave for Beijing late Tuesday. He said search teams are now increasingly focussed on locating debris from the plane.
