Though the era of mobile technology has led to the proliferation of computer games, it has also encouraged people to read more in China - this according to the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

The academy has just released its survey of Chinese reading habits ahead of World Book Day on Saturday. Based on responses from more than 45,000 people in 81 cities and townships in 29 regions, it found that Chinese people, on average, read [past] eight books in 2015, a small increase over previous years that in part to mobile technology.

Of those eight, three were in digital form, the most popular genres being urban romance, history, and fantasy. Adults and minors answered different questions, but about 80% of surveyed in both groups have a reading habit. It's the academy's 13th survey since 1999.
