Rains had caused havoc with the schedule for Wimbledon, so for the first time in a dozen years matches needed to played on the middle Sunday.
It is just the fourth time in the long-history of the All-England that had occurred, and that meant for a special feeling on centre court, even for an old pro like Tomas Berdych, who was finalist here in 2010. The Czech would be facing a young gun in 19-year-old Alexander Zverev in a third round encounter.
Berdych took the first two sets before 19-year-old Russian was able to grab the third, he pick things up in the fourth, but the Czech has a break point, and he is able to convert thanks to a forehand down the line and take a 2-1 lead.
The tenth seed would cruise from there as he grabs the frame 6-1, and prevails in four sets and will iri Veseley next.
John Isner and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were involved in a marathon encounter, the pair are tied 17-17 in the decider.
No tiebreaks in the final set here -- the Frenchman grabs a vital break, when the American's forehand is long. Isner was involved in the longest ever match at Wimbledon with Nicolas Mahut, winning 70-68 in the last set -- but it looks like he will go down here.
Tsonga serving an ace in the next game to move closer to prevailing.
And the 12th seed would be able to seal things, with a fantastic point, chasing down a couple of passing shots, and volleying into the open court. Tsonga, coming back from two sets down and saved a match point earlier in the fifth set, and advances 6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 19-17 after almost four and a half hours of play. He moves onto the fourth round.
Richard Gasquet recovered from dropping the first set to beat Spain's Alberto Ramos-Vinolas and comes away with 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory. The two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist is one of four Frenchmen to reach the last 16, along with Tsonga, Nicolas Mahut and Lucas Pouille.
In other matches, the aforementioned Pouille put an end to Juan Martin Del Potro's run. Joao Sousa fell to unseeded Jiri Vesely. While Nick Kyrgios needed four sets to advance over Feliciano Lopez.
