| Tibet's capital of Lhasa has been attracting more and more domestic and foreign tourists, with its beautiful scenery, religious and cultural customs, and increasingly cleaner environment.
Lhasa has made great efforts to speed up infrastructure construction in urban areas, upgrade the urban administration mechanism, and raise residents environmental protection awareness, thus improving the city's environment substantially.
Dorje Cizhu, mayor of Lhasa, said, "To better Lhasa's living environment and improve residents' living standard have always been the priority of our government work."
The Lhasa City Government has spent 536 million yuan RMB (78.5 million U.S. dollars) on the urban greening project by building 40 green belts and increasing the public green space by 1.18 million sq m.
As a result, the green coverage ratio in Lhasa has risen to 36 percent, with the per-capita public green space hitting 10 sq m.
Lhasa has been able to clean up the garbage on a daily basis, with 60 of household refuse collected and 95 percent treated in a pollution-free manner.
Now, Lhasa has 26 nature reserves and ecological zones and twelve water resources protection zones, with the water quality of the city's four drinking water treatment works meeting the standard.
