An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Administration.
With a depth of about 33 kilometers, the quake's epicenter lay in 2.4 degrees north latitude and 97.1 degrees east longitude, according to the administration.
