Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban said Monday that he would propose extending the curfew in Bangkok and some other areas for another seven nights.

According to The Nation newspaper website, Suthep said the anti-government "underground movement" is still active and plans to cause chaos although the protest had ended and red-shirt leaders surrendered.

The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) on Sunday extended the curfew through Sunday and Monday nights, after the curfew was imposed in Bangkok and 23 other provinces on May 19, following the arson and violence by some hardcore red-shirts who did not agree to end the two-month rally in Bangkok.

The red-shirt protesters' leaders announced the end of the rally on May 19 after the troops carried out the dispersion operation earlier in the day.
