One soldier was killed and four injured early Thursday morning in clashes with a terrorist organization in the southeastern city of Sirnak, about 1,700 km away from Istanbul.
The semi-official Anatolia News Agency reported that a clash occurred between security forces conducting a surveillance mission near Sirnak's Andac village at the Iraq border and a group of guerrillas of the separatist Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK).
A wide-ranging operation is taking place in the area to capture the terrorists who tried to escape under the cover of darkness.
Additional information from the Chief of General Staff said operations in eastern Tunceli and southeastern Mardin have captured 4 terrorists and one terrorist respectively.
