Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani condemned the latest UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution which imposed sanctions against Iran, the English language satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.
"All these things (of sanction) may be psychological warfare to make us give in, but they (the world powers) should know that Iran will never surrender," Rafsanjani addressed Expediency Council members on Sunday.
The UN Security Council Wednesday adopted a resolution imposing a fourth round of sanctions against Iran over its suspected nuclear program.
Criticizing the United States, Russia and France for failing to respond to Iran's proposal on time, he said that "Iran expressed readiness to swap uranium following the Tehran declaration. Talks were expected to begin, but the Vienna Group failed to respond until after the UNSC sanctions resolution," he further explained.
The United States, Russia and France, known as the Vienna Group, formally replied to Iran's proposals for a nuclear fuel swap, just hours before the United Nations voted on new sanctions against Tehran on Wednesday.
On May 17, Iran, Turkey and Brazil signed a joint declaration in Tehran to endorse a fuel swap, under which Iran will ship most of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for the 20 percent uranium fuel needed for its medical research reactor.
Western powers have said Iran's new proposals did not solve core doubts about its nuclear program.
