A total of 35 illegal miners are feared dead in a mining pit at Dunkwa-on Offin in the central region of Ghana, local media said.
Meanwhile, local media had said that the dead were part of a group of about 120 illegal miners, popular known in the West African country as "galamsey" operators working in a pit when water suddenly flooded it trapping them.
Kwarteng, a local, told Xinhua that no attempts had yet been made to rescue the trapped miners since the incident on Sunday.
The regional minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe, in an interview with Xinhua said the regional and national security were in an emergency meeting to decide on the next line of action
