Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter will arrive in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) later Wednesday to negotiate the release of a U.S. man detained there for illegal entry, Xinhua reporters were informed.
The man, Aijalon Mahli Gomes, 31, was detained by the DPRK on Jan. 25, 2010 for entering the country illegally. On April 6, he was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and a fine of about 700,000 U.S. dollars.
