Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met here Thursday with a delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The delegation was headed by Choe Tae Bok, member of both the political bureau and the secretariat of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee.

Expressing congratulations on the success of the WPK Conference held this week, Wang said he believed the China-DPRK traditional friendship will stride forward continuously under new circumstances, and make due contributions to safeguarding regional peace and stability, with the joint efforts of the two sides.

DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il and the WPK Central Committee decided to send a delegation as soon as possible to inform China on the Conference, and such a move fully demonstrated the DPRK attaches great importance to the party-to-party and state-to-state relations with China, Choe said.

The Conference was a very important meeting since the congress of the WPK in 1980, Choe said.

The Conference made decisions on three main agenda items, including the reelection of Kim Jong Il as general secretary of the WPK, the revision of the WPK Charter and the election of the new central leadership of the party.
