Iran's Fars News Agency (FNA) said Wednesday that 18 people were killed in a blast at one of the Revolutionary Guards' bases in the country's western region.
"Yesterday's (Tuesday) explosion happened at the IRGC's Imam Ali base, one of the Guards' bases in Lorestan in western Iran, 18 people were killed and 14 injured", Commander Yadollah Bouali was quoted by FNA as saying.
The blast happened after "a place where ammunition was kept" caught fire, Bouali said without giving further details of casualties.
The number of the killed and injured is almost final and in case of any changes in the number of the casualties, the figure will be announced by the end of the day, Bouali said.
The wounded have been taken to hospitals in Khoramabad, some 500 kilometers southwest of the capital of Tehran, FNA reported, describing the blast as a accident.
Some of the injured left the hospital soon and several others were hospitalized for further treatments, Bouali said.
Iran has been fighting against armed militant and separatist movements along the border with Pakistan and Iraq.
On Sept. 22, a bomb blast in northwestern Iran killed at least 11 people and injured dozens during a military parade in the northwestern town of Mahabad in West Azarbaijan province.
