China Thursday offered its condolences to Indonesia over the recent tsunami disaster in the country that has caused at least 311 fatalities.
Rescuers are searching for 379 people still missing after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent tsunami struck western Indonesia Monday.
"The Chinese government and people express their deep sympathy over the disaster," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu at a regular news briefing.
Ma said Chinese President Hu Jintao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi have sent separate condolence messages to their Indonesian counterparts.
The Red Cross Society of China has donated 30,000 U.S. dollars for disaster relief work in the affected areas, Ma added.
The spokesman said there are no reports of Chinese nationals being among the casualties.
