Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) military fired two shots toward a South Korean military guard post near the border in Hwacheon, local media Yonhap News Agency reported Friday.
Earlier, local media YTN reported that the DPRK fired into a military base in Hwacheon, 118 kilometers northeast of Seoul.
However, Yonhap quoted an official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) as saying, "It hasn't been confirmed whether the shooting was accidental."
But the official added, "We returned the fire immediately."
