Vietnam has pledged to strengthen cooperation with China in drug prevention in border areas, a senior Vietnamese public security official said Tuesday.
The commitment was made at the second bilateral conference on drug prevention between Vietnam and China in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The two-day conference, hosted by Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS), draws the two countries' senior anti-drug officials.
Vu Hung Vuong, Vietnamese Deputy Director-General of General Police Department under MPS said the conference provided a chance for Vietnam and China to inform each other of drug prevention situation and share experience on fighting drug trafficking on the border.
The conference reflected the firm determination and confidence of the parties concerned in promoting bilateral cooperation in drug prevention, said Vuong.
Representatives will discuss coordination in fighting drug crimes and drug control, especially in border areas, said Vuong.
Deng Ming, an official of Anti-Narcotics Division under Chinese Ministry of Public Security said that boosting cooperation in drug prevention between the two countries' public security ministries will help increase efficiency of drug prevention activities in border areas.
