China, Malaysia to enhance cooperation in cross-border crimes

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, calling for closer ties with China in fighting cross-border crimes.
Malaysia deems China as one of the most important countries and is willing to continue deepening bilateral relations with China, said Najib.
He stressed that as important partners, it is crucial for Malayisa and China to further enhance cooperation in security fields and join hands in fighting against various cross-border crimes.
Meng said law enforcement cooperation is an important part in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, which has made remarkable achievements over the past years. China's enforcement departments are willing to further deepening cooperation with its Malaysian counterparts so as to protect common interests of the two countries.
In another meeting with Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Hishiammuddin Tun Hussein, Meng said that public security department of China and police department under Malaysia's home ministry share the same tasks of combatting against crimes and maintaining social stability.
He said China is willing to step up cooperation with Malaysia in various fields including defeating telecommunication fraud, anti-terrorism and marine enforcement and will actively push the bilateral law enforcement cooperation stepping foreward.
Hishiammuddin said that multinational crimes and new types of crimes are on a rising momentum due largely to the globalization, which has driven massive flows of people, capital and information all over the world. Therefore, Malaysia hopes an intensified cooperaiton with China in anti-terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling, money laundry and telecommunication fraud.
Meng arrived in Malaysia on Feb. 19 for a four-day visit at the invitation of Hishiammuddin.
