A car crash caused by tyre explosion killed 11 people and injured 18 others in Qena-Safaga road in Upper Egypt, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.
A security official told the Egyptian Gazette that the accident happened Tuesday when a car's back tyre exploded, separated from the car and stuck a minibus. 11 people, including two children, were killed, and 18 others injured.
Traffic accidents are common in Egypt. According to a government report, an average of 18 people were killed per day in 2009 due to automobile collisions.
