Most Islamic countries are in favor of Syria being banned from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Tunisia's Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesslem said on Tuesday, the official TAP press agency reported.
Abdesslem, who is in Mecca of Saudi Arabia for the holding of an extraordinary OIC summit, said only a small number of Islamic countries are opposed to Syria's exclusion from the organization, most notably Iran.
The minister said more than 53 countries are attending the OIC summit which is held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The summit's final declaration may call for the suspension of Syria's OIC membership in addition to supporting a Palestinian independent state as well as defending Myanmar's Muslim minority, he said.
