China has strongly condemned and is firmly opposed to any attack aimed at common people, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said at a Tuesday press briefing.
Hua Chunying's comment came after two explosions took place near the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday afternoon, leaving three people dead and injuring at least 140.
"We extend our deep condolences and sincere regards to the victims and their relatives," she said.
One female Chinese student was injured in the accident, according to Hua.
The Foreign Ministry attaches great importance to safeguarding the security and legitimate rights of overseas Chinese citizens, Hua said, adding that Chinese Consulate General in New York has already sent personnel to visit the student in hospital.
