A special gathering of The International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) concluded in northwest China's Xi'an City on Friday with a proposal for green and common development of Asia.

The two-day event was hosted by the Communist Party of China (CPC) with the theme "Promote green development and build a beautiful Asia together."

Leaders and representatives of 57 political parties from 33 countries of the Asia-Pacific region and related organizations exchanged ideas and experiences of protecting the ecological environment and promoting equitable green development.

They also discussed how to promote joint work among political parties so as to strengthen international cooperation in such endeavors.

Delegates produced a four-point proposal in the Xi'an Initiative adopted upon the conference's conclusion and called on participating parties to prioritize green development, pursue inclusive development, jointly build a beautiful Asia and innovate in development modes.

"We believe that the 'greening' of the economy is not a burden of development, but a new engine of growth that is fast becoming a basis of convergence among interests of nations," the initiative said. "Green development is going to play an indispensable role in fulfilling the 'Asian Dream' of revival and rejuvenation."

Participants have put forward new ideas in promoting green development, including an Asian green development fund and a great green technology market in Asia.

They endorsed Chinese President Xi Jinping's call for setting and strictly observing an ecological "red line" to protect the environment, the initiative said.

Prior to the conference, delegates visited ecological projects in Shaanxi Province, admiring the efforts of the CPC and the Chinese government in simultaneously promoting development and preserving ecosystems.

The ICAPP is a forum of political parties from Asian and Oceanic countries. It was initiated by Philippines political party the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats in September 2000.

The CPC hosted the organization's general assembly in 2004 in Beijing, as well as two special conferences in 2010 and 2011.
