Jordan tackling water shortage with German 10 mln euros aid
AMMAN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Germany on Monday granted Jordan 10 million euros as an urgent assistance to help provide meet rising demand on water in the northern region, which is home to a large number of Syrian refugees, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan's Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammad Najjar said the grant will help meet the rising demand on water, adding that the influx of Syrians into Jordan increased pressure on already limited water resources.
The grant will be used to rehabilitate water wells, water networks and buy water tankers to provide the Syrians and Jordanians in the northern region with water.
The minister also voiced appreciation for Germany for its assistance to Jordan.
So far, More than 150,000 Syrians fled to Jordan since the unrest started in their country, according to official figures. Enditem
