The Macao Red Cross said on Wednesday that it has so far received 1.09 million patacas (137,975 U.S. dollars) in donations from local people for earthquake victims in Haiti.
The money will be used to assist the quake relief operations in Haiti, where local officials estimated that over 100,000 people were killed in the disaster, a spokesperson of the Macao Red Cross said.
However, the spokesperson said that the organization was yet to decide whether the money should be delivered to the Red Cross Society of China or directly to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The organization has already allocated 200,000 patacas (25,316 U.S. dollars) for the emergency quake relief operations in Haiti after the earthquake occurred last week.
Meanwhile, the World Vision of Macao Association, the branch of an international charity, has also raised over 350,000 patacas (44,304 U.S. dollars) to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.
