Czech humanitarian organizations have collected about 47 million crowns (over 2.5 million U.S. dollars) in public fund-raising campaigns in aid of the earthquake-hit Haiti to date, in addition to the 20 million crowns earmarked by the Czech government.
A team of medical workers that the People in Need organization finances from the collected money is expected to arrive in Haiti on Saturday.
Donors have sent over 26 million crowns to the People in Need account.
The ADRA charity organization has collected 8.8 million crowns and the Olomouc charity 12 million.
Over 9 million crowns appeared on the humanitarian organizations' accounts during the two concerts held in support of Haiti in Prague on Thursday.
Earlier this week the Czech government earmarked 20 million crowns for Haiti, 5 million of which was immediately sent to the UNICEF to buy drinking water.
