Security Council at Bulgaria's Council of Ministers here on Friday adopted a plan with 11 urgent measures to reduce the migration pressure coming from Syria.
Preparation of a general prognosis regarding the expected wave of refugees by the end of 2013 was the first measure, the Government Information Service said in a press release.
Other three measures were updating existing national institutional and inter-agency contingency response and crisis management plans, reviewing the annual budgets of government departments for reallocating budgetary resources to meet the refugee flow, and reviewing and evaluating public buildings in order to identify buildings suitable for immediate adaptation for acceptance of foreigners in terms of the expected wave of refugees.
Urgent intensification of bilateral dialogue with Turkey and Greece with a view to joint efforts to deal with the refugee flow was another measure, along with preparation of a feasibility study regarding the procedure for obtaining financial aid, and if required, strengthening cooperation with various organizations such as the European Commission, the European Office for Migration and Asylum, NATO, UN agencies and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Reviewing and updating the National Plan to combat terrorism was also included in the 11-point plan, the Government Information Service said.
On Thursday, Bulgarian Defense Minister Angel Naydenov said his country insisted on political dialogue and political solution for Syria, and "these options have not been exhausted, so I find it inappropriate commenting on a military solution."
