The short film Ciao Fa, Come Stai (Italian, how are you) tells a Chinese-Italian love story it was produced by Xiahou Shangbu. After graduated from high school she worked as an artist and singer in China before she came to Italy. Now she is studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin.
The film is the portrait of the producer's real life story. The process of production was quite a difficult journey as it combined her personal story with reflections on life. It showcases a stream of consciousness by using expressive montage. There is not a clear story, rather it expands by conversation, to show the past, present and future of the love story. Although it seems like a thriller where it not clear if the love story ever happened. Most parts are a reflection on the thoughts of the film's director/actress. There is no clear structure or end.
Xiahou commented that it also reflects her feeling of loss while studying and living in Italy. Xia gained fame as a rock singer who had a successful national tour, as well as, as an artist. Like other Chinese students who study overseas, she suffers loneliness and isolation while battling the difficulties of mastering another language, and sitting for 6 hours listening to the recordings she made of lectures, is quite normal for her.
