The first edition of The Youth Magazine, created by one of the founders of the Party Chen Duxiu in September 1915, is also on display. The revolutionary magazine, which was later titled The New Youth, promoted science, democracy and vernacular Chinese literature.
Another exhibit is the 11.5-meter-long scroll created by the late Shanghai painter He Youzhi. The scroll, which depicts scenes of life in the city in the 1940s, is displayed next to the ink and wash painting scroll by Shanghai artist Zhang Chi which showcases local landmarks in the 21st century such as the Lujiazui Financial Area in Pudong New Area and the Bund. The actual work by Zhang is 70 meters in length – only a segment of it is being displayed at the exhibition.
