Three people died and two were injured when rocks falling from a mountain hit a car and a truck Saturday in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, the local government said.
The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. on State Highway 319 in Wulong County, said Liu Wuhua, deputy head of the county government.
Falling rocks knocked a Volkswagen Santana off the road, killing the driver and two passengers, he said.
The rocks also destroyed a truck and injured two people on board, Liu said.
Local authorities have closed the Wulong section of the highway to remove potential dangers.
Mud-rock flows and landslides are common in Chongqing in the flood season from June to September.
