Zackenberg, Greenland [huanqiu.com] |
The musk ox living in Zackenberg feeds on the sparse vegetation that grows in the summer season, when temperatures can peak at 10°C. In winter, the temperature drops to -35°C, and the musk oxen must use their hooves to dig through snow to access food.
Increasing precipitation and temperature fluctuations are severely damaging the winter forage of those big mammals.
