Princeton University's economist Angus Deaton and Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman reviewed surveys of 450,000 Americans conducted in 2008 and 2009 for the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index that included questions on people's day-to-day happiness and their overall life satisfaction, Reuters reported. They found that happiness improved as income rose but the effect leveled out once people's incomes reached around $75,000. Kimani Maruge, a Kenyan farmer, became the world's oldest student when he started primary school at 84 after the country began offering free primary schooling for everyone, Xinhua reported. Sitting alongside 6-year-olds, Maruge wanted to learn to read so he could read the Bible for himself. He died of cancer last August at the age of 89.
