A newly released UK study shows how smoking and alcohol consumption do not affect semen quality, BBC reported. The research, published in the journal Human Reproduction, however did state that avoiding both remains the best health advice.
Researchers at the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester compared the lifestyles of 939 men with poor sperm quality to those of 1,310 men with normal sperm quality.
The study showed there was little difference in the number of active spermatozoids between those of patients who never smoked and those of patients who had a 20-a-day habit.
There was also little evidence that excessive alcohol consumption affected the sperm quality.
