After graduated cum laude from Amherst College, Wei Sun Christianson received her law degree with honors from the Columbia University School of Law in 1989. In 1998, Sun joined Morgan Stanley China as executive director and Beijing representative. She left Morgan Stanley in 2002 to serve as chairwoman of China and country manager for Credit Suisse First Boston. Sun later became chairman of China for Citigroup Global Markets (Asia) Ltd.
Sun rejoined Morgan Stanley in 2006, by which time she was regarded as one of the most powerful women in the world capital market. In 2010, under her leadership, Morgan Stanley China became the only foreign investment bank among the top 5 investment banks in China in terms of revenue. In March 2011, Sun was promoted to co-chief executive officer of Morgan Stanley Asia-Pacific.
