Hurricane Pauline is known as one of the deadliest and strongest hurricanes to ever make landfall in Mexico. The recorded strongest winds of the hurricane were 130 mph (215 km/h); its lowest pressure 948 mbar. The overall damage caused by Pauline amounted to a staggering $447.8 million (1997 USD), including the destruction of tens of thousands of houses which left a massive number of 300,000 people homeless.
