USS Arizona Memorial [Xinhua] |
Located at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, it was built to commemorate the 1102 bodies of the 1177 soldiers who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941 by Japanese imperial forces. The memorial, which is built on the wreck of the Arizona, consists of three parts: the entry, assembly room, and shrine. The central assembly room features seven large open windows on the walls and ceiling, to commemorate the date of the attack. It is visited by more than one million people every year.
