An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday the report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief Mohamed ElBaradei shows the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
"As predicted, Mr. ElBaradei has reconfirmed that Iran's nuclear activities have not been diverted from peaceful purposes and no military activities have been seen in Iran's nuclear work," Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.
The report bears such a fact, "although it bears some ambiguities due to the political pressures exerted by certain powers," Mehmanparast told reporters.
Meanwhile, Iran's envoy to the IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh said Tuesday that the latest report by the UN nuclear watchdog proved the West's huge media hype against Iran's second enrichment plant was based on "baseless allegations", the satellite Press TV reported.
"The report confirmed that no centrifuges had been introduced into the facility and that no nuclear material had been used in it," Soltaniyeh was quoted as saying.
In the report on Iran's nuclear program and on its second uranium enrichment facility near Iran's central city of Qom, IAEA said Monday that its inspectors found no centrifuges in the facility. But they found that the plant is "at an advanced state of construction."
The report, however, did not rule out the possibility of other hidden nuclear sites in Iran, reasoning that Iran's belated declaration of the second nuclear site in September "reduces the level of confidence in the absence of other nuclear facilities in Iran."
Iran has reiterated that, according to its obligations, it was only required to disclose the site near Qom six months before the introduction of nuclear material.
