Tingyi, best known for its instant noodle brand Master Kong, was one of the 18 companies to win the award this year.
As a food maker, Tingyi has always taken its social responsibility seriously by giving top priority to food safety in corporate management and development. The company has made huge investments in technological improvements for food safety and quality, and underlined that food safety should be stringently enforced through the whole supply chain from the field to the dining table. This explains why Tingyi has been highly reputed by the industry and consumers.
Tingyi also has set a good example in energy conservation and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Starting in 2004, the company lowered the weight of the plastic bottles for bottled water from 18 grams to 12 grams through the application of innovative technologies. This move helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions from use of plastics by nearly 100,000 tons a year.
Charitable donations from the group have exceeded more than 400 million yuan (US$63.5 million) in the last few years. In 2010, the group established a charitable foundation with an endowment of 20 million yuan (US$3.2 million) for Project Hope schools, scholarships, succor, disaster relief and cross-strait cultural exchanges.
The award scheme was established in 2010 by Sohu.com, China's leading web portal network, and A.T. Kearney, a global management consulting firm, to recognize the companies which achieved sustainable development from economic, environmental and social perspectives.
