Police in east China's Jiangsu Province have shut down a porn website whose registered users numbered over 130,000 with an average age of 23, according to authorities Thursday.
Twenty-two key suspects were detained after the website "Xunhu Shequ," or Fox Seeker Community, was discovered to be secretly facilitating the production and dissemination of lewd animation videos and pictures targeting young netizens, said the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications said.
The website, based in Nantong City, came to the attention of local Internet police in May, when a netizen outside the city was uploading lewd videos to the website.
Investigations revealed that the website, founded in September 2008, had a founder, 19 co-administrators, and 70 members. They regularly downloaded huge volumes of porn animation videos from foreign websites and then translated and captioned them before uploading them to websites at home and abroad.
All key suspects in the case have been apprehended after over 20 teams of law enforcers were dispatched to 19 provinces and municipalities to find them, according to the office.
Chinese authorities have shut down more than 60,000 pornographic websites since launching a crackdown in December 2009, the office said.
Some 2,197 cases of dissemination of online pornography have been dealt with during the crackdown.
