Fang Zhouzi, a science writer known for his efforts in exposing academic frauds in China, was attacked near his home at about 5 p.m. Sunday by two unidentified men, Global Times reported. The attackers used narcotic spray and attempted to swing the hammer on him. Fang escaped with some minor injuries to the waist. He could not identify the attackers, who are still at large. Fang's recent activities include exposing Tang Jun, the chief executive officer of New Huadu Industrial Group, for faking his diploma. |

Oxford University Press said Sunday that so many people prefer to look up words using its online edition that it's uncertain whether the Oxford English Dictionary's next edition will be printed on paper at all, AP reported. The digital version of the Oxford English Dictionary now gets 2 million hits a month from subscribers, who pay US$295 a year for the service in the U.S. In contrast, the current printed edition — a 20-volume, 750-pound set published in 1989 — has sold about 30,000 sets total. |

Ozrem, a remote Serbian mountain village, is hosting the seventh annual World Testicle Cooking Championship, where chefs cook up bull, boar, camel, ostrich and even kangaroo testicles, AP reported. The food — politely called "white kidneys" in Serbian — is believed to be rich in testosterone. In the Balkans, it is considered to help men's libido. "This festival is all about fun, food and bravery," said Ljubomir Erovic, the organizer who also has published a testicle cookery book. |

U.S. scientists have been developing sticky gloves and shoes using a material that allows the wearing to stick and climb up walls, the Daily Telegraph reported. Inspired by geckos, they have created a rubber-like material covered with thousands of tiny polymer fibers to imitate the gecko's hairs. It has been tested successfully on a "robotic gecko" called Stickybot. Engineers now want to "scale up" the design for humans. |
